Since the creation of the Diam 24 od class in 2015 everything has been done so that the one design is used to its full capacity and that the class rules allow the material equity preservation between all, it’s up to the crew to stand out !Thus, whenever it’s necessary, specificities are added to the class rules to preserve this equity value.
Due to these field, listening and observation works, the Diam 24 od races are ideally framed for the
regattas to be beautifully carried out on sea and not on parking lots !
The boat verification sessions are just formalities : the class rules have been pondered so that each crew can at one glance locate the opponents’ boats, and to simplify the controlers work. The aim being to make difficult the work of potential cheaters.
The Diam 24 od class rules are centered on priorities : they frame every performance aspects and as a rule we don’t regulate what is not verifiable.
The conformity certificate : « Certificat Diam24od »
The certificate of conformity has been checked again to answer the particularities of this new sportboat , it must be renewed every year.
Thanks to the « Drules » application, you can edit it, manage all the spare parts replacements for the season (additional sails, renewing accessories etc.). It’s the key factor for the respect of our class rules.
Apuzzle which can be weighed
Indeed, theDiam 24 od is a puzzle. All the major parts have a serial number. Their conformity is verified then entered in a data base.
When a Diam 24 od is assembled, each element of this puzzle is chosen and referenced. The entire Diam is weighed so as to ensure that the minimum weight is respected (and not over0,4% of the boat measurements).
These weighing datas « from factory » remain unknown to all. They will be consulted in case of parts replacements, to guarantee that no one creates secretly a lighter boat, or in case of control to check that the parts have not lost their initial weight. The sails are also One design. After manufacturing, they are controled for conformity on the shape and perimeter measurements criterias.
Thus, in 6 years experience of these strict one design rules, it has been largely proven that the difference in performances actually comes solely from the crews.
Constant evolution
Opinions of racers are gathered every year for the betterment of the rules.
2016 : Suppression of maximum crew weight, zones definitions and onboard crew positionning
2017 : Evolution of the design with additions of small fittings.
2018 : Trying out a minimum crew weight at 210kg (initially at 220kg)
2019 : The crews minimum weight control is done right after the races. Indeed, weight being the enemy of speed, and particularly on multihulls, lightness is the key to performance. The maximum weight has been removed.
2020 The latest news are :
Crew minimum authorised weight 220kg, crews doing less will still have the right to race, on condition to have onboard a pig iron equivalent to the registered weight difference (thisdifference must not exceed 10 kg).
This evolution might allow, in medium-term, to increase the minimum weight, in order to simplfy the crew composition and open to a greater number the Diam 24 od class.
Actual project : penalty rating for the rules breaches, should gender mixity be imposed ? Development of rules adapted to light breeze conditions and additional sails (code 0 and head genaker) .
