From 15th to 17th October, le Diam 24 One Design sailed the water grounds of the naval school of Lanvéoc Poulmic in the south of the Bay of Brest. Weather conditions were variable, from almost no wind with rain, to medium winds and calm seas.
The trimaran seduced the seven participating pupils from the Naval School. For his first experience on a multihull, the Commodore Philippe HELLO found the Diam 24 OD simple, seaworthy, elegant and very fast. Thomas LEBRETON and Sophie DE TURKHEIM, members of the French Naval Team, were also seduced by this new vessel.
We were also visited by Mr. Henry BACCINI, vice president of the French Sailing Federation, who truly apreciated the high-technicity of this concept.
The Diam 24 One Design will have its own departure call and ranking for the 2014 Naval School’s Grand Prix next may. This regatta is an essential event in the racing season.
Right now, we are sure to have at least 6 boats compete, but we count on you to enlarge the class, hopefully forming a fleet of around ten vessels for the beginning of the next season.
On Friday, the boats departed by sea to Brest for the weekend trial on 19th and 20th october. The Diam 24 One Design was able to show its true potential in all points of sail. On board, our hosts, Marc LIARDET, Jean COADOU and Gildas COADOU were able to test its seaworthiness. (See interview of Jean COADOU).
Unfortunately, rough weather conditions prevented any sailing for the weekend trial in Brest, but another date will be organized.
Next presentation trial is at La Trinité sur Mer on the weekend of 01 November.
