The Tour de France à la Voile has been the ultimate test to date for the Diam 24od. Having been hardily, efficiently and successfully tested by professionnal skippers during this first year of tuning, ADH Inotec’s one design trimaran has proved that simplicity, sturdiness and speed were compatible. The Diam 24od has been able to answer the demands of racers and organizers of Tour de France à la Voile. The boat has also seduced its partners and the French Sailing Federation (FFV)
ADH Inotec can certainly conclude on a very positive note from this first Tour de France on Diam 24od, and can already start projecting on the 2016 season of this one design sportboat class, with possibly kangaroos and deep blue sea on the horizon …..
Despite tonic weather conditions over a large part of this 2015 edition of Tour de France à la Voile, all of the 28 Diam 24od competing in the the 36 races and 9 long distant races between Dunkerque and Nice – completed the event successfully.
Apart from breakage through collision, the boats were found to be structurally resistant (hulls, beams, centerboard boxes, hardware). The 28 trimarans are ready to race again – despite the crews’ getting the most out of their boats.
The nine legs of the event also meant nine build-up and nine dismantling operations. Here again the Diam 24od’s have proved foolproof. « We had planned far too many spare parts ! Everyone finished the regatta with boats in good condition and ready for a new racing event ! The Diam 24od specifications had not planned for such a high level of demand » commented Vianney Ancellin, managing director of ADH Inotec.
Sportswise, once again, the Diam 24od has kept its word. The breathtaking final of this totally new Tour de France – is proof in itself. Before the last day of racing – no one knew who would win or take a podium. Experienced sailors and outsiders battled edge to edge right to the end.
Young racers along with the elite on the same trampoline.
Skippers, team mangers, trainers were all agreably surprised by the qualities of the Diam 24od, unanimously proclaimed robust, well designed and fun.
This sportboat from ADH Inotec and its capacity to assemble seniors along with juniors within the same event, has aroused constructive reflexion within the youth section of the French sailing federation.
As for sponsors, they were seduced and conviced by this new formula of Tour de France à la Voile, with its spectacular backup and closeness to the general public.
The Diam 24od in kangaroo country
The Diam 24od has federated far wider than ADH Inotec’s expectations. The yard continues its delivery of boats (N° 36 will be delivered end of july) and taking new orders ….
Notably an order from a British racer who is motivated in developping the class across the Channel. The same keen interest from marine professionnals in Australia who are seriously considering building the one design trimaran from Port la Forêt in kangaroo country.
Besides the boat itself, it is the Diam 24od concept in its globality that creates real interest. « In the United Kingdom as in Australia, people love sailing, especially on multihulls, but their is no fleet structure. The Diam 24od is the first one design multihull and our UK and Australien contacts are ready to put in place the same strict monotype control as in our country along with a programme of racing events similar to the Grand Prix events in France » says Vianney Ancellin.
There is a life after the Tour.
Two Grand Prix events will close the Diam 24od 2015 season : One in Port la Forêt (28 – 30 august) and one in La Trinité sur Mer (9-11 october). All will be set up so that these small trimarans can compete in « Novembre à Hyères » – a first step in the Mediterranean (apart from TFV) – that could perpetuate next year with the Primo Cup.
