Quiberon Bay, backdrop of the last two events of the World Diam Tour France 2023!
Autumn is back in Brittany, and the 5th WDT France event has just been disputed. The 2023 circuit will close with a 6th and final event in Quiberon Bay: the Trophée An Avel BRAZ on October, 13th & 14th. For some, it’s getting close to winter, but for others, a new season is just around the corner. The racers on the other side of the Atlantic can’t wait to get the boats out on the water again, and take advantage of some fine days of sailing, thrills and spills. The Diam 24ods have taken up their autumn quarters in St Philibert. After a training weekend organised by Club Voile Océane on September 16th and 17th, the Diam 24od fleet headed out to sea to take part in the SailFast multihull event in the port of Crouesty. The class proposed this new formula to avoid road travel and further simplify logistics. The result: 3 weekends of sailing from the same parking lot, a single set-up… ” We want to change our habits, so that we don’t have to travel by road. We want to change our habits, to take better care of our environment. The crews seem delighted with this initiative, but we’ll take the time at the end of the season to interview them all to assess the season as a whole and draw lessons for next season,” says president Xavier DUBOS. The Sailfast, organised by the YCCA, gave us a superb welcome! On arrival, the boats were moored at the Club’s large dock, with the yard’s technical and logistical assistance truck waiting for them on the way to the club house. What better way to enjoy a weekend of sailing with peace of mind? From Friday afternoon onwards, the Diam 24ods raced on a stretch of water that gave all the crews a hard time… The program included varied weather conditions, a little current, a wind varying in strength and direction, on constructed courses and two beautiful raids in Quiberon Bay. On Sunday, a beautiful breeze and sunshine awaited the crews, and the light was splendid. At the committee’s request, reefing was imposed on all crews. The stage was set for a fine finish. Peak speeds of over 24 knots were recorded that day! The finish of the last race was in St Philibert, which meant that all the Diam24ods could be quickly stowed away in the dry, before the prize-giving ceremony and the return to reality! Next regatta will be the Challenge An Avel Braz in Saint Philibert from October 13th to October 15th, the final event of the WDT France 2023. |
